Let's look at two scenarios, a worst-case and a best-case, and see what's possible with each. If we can get to this star system, we can settle it. Not very hospitable, perhaps-but I'm about to argue that it's just fine. The planet, Bb as it's currently called, has a six-day year and a surface temperature of 1500C. Yesterday it was announced that an earth-sized planet has been discovered circling the nearest star, Alpha-Centauri (around the smaller of its two main stars, actually, Alpha-Centauri B). If you want to find out what the Virga universe is all about, you can check it out here: I've made large tracts of these two Virga books available. Book Excerpts: Sun of Suns and Pirate Sun Means you can read it and distribute it freely, but not make derivative I've released this book under a Creative Commons license, which Ventus was first published by Tor Books in 2000, and and you can still buy it to everyone who would just like to sample my work, I hope you enjoy this version. To celebrate the August, 2007 publication of Queen of Candesce, I decided to re-release my first novel as an eBook. I am looking forward to putting up a number of short stories in the near future. #Planet centauri farming free#Popular Science.I've made my first novel, Ventus, available as a free download, as well as excerpts from two of the Virga books. This newly spotted massive alien planet is confusing astronomers. © Provided by Indiatimesįor more in the world of science and tech, keep reading. Our sun is approximately 4.6 billion years old! Did this discovery tickle your curiosity bones? Let us know in the comments below. The two huge stars in b Centauri are relatively young (15 million years old). The images of the exoplanet were clicked by European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope in Chile, the findings of which were published in Nature on Wednesday.Īlso read: ISRO Scientists Discover Exoplanet 1.4 Times Bigger Than Jupiter With an orbit distance of 83 billion miles (52 billion miles) between b Centauri b and the Centauri b star system, this is one of the widest orbits ever spotted by scientists. For perspective, the exoplanet is 10 times bigger than Jupiter, making it one of the largest exoplanets ever to be discovered.Īlso read: A Year Or 365 Days On This Exoplanet Lasts For Less Than 8 Hours This is the first time a planet has been discovered around a star system so massive. Until now, no stars have been found orbiting stars that have mass thrice as big as our Sun. Together, both the stars have the weight equivalent to 6-10 times our Sun. The central star in this B Centauri is about thrice as hot as our sun. Why the planet "b Centauri b" shouldn't exist But the discovery of a new planet, dubbed "b Centauri b" changes a lot we know about the binary star system situated 325 light-years away. In fact, it is so hot that scientists find it hard to understand how a planet could exist around the binary star system. The only catch? The two-star system is considered too hot and massive to have a planet. Discovered in the binary star system called "B Centauri," the planet is massive - just like everything else in the system. Scientists have found a planet that shouldn't exist it all.
